Characterization of a Nematic Mixture by Reversed-Phase HPLC and UV Spectroscopy: Application to Phase Behavior Studies in Liquid Crystal-CO2 Systems

چکیده
In the present work a simple but selective reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method (HPLC) was developed for analysis of the nematic liquid crystal mixture E7 to precisely determine the composition of the liquid crystal mixture used in PDLC films preparation. Ultra-violet absorption spectrophotometry (UV) experiments were carried out to determine the HPLC detection wavelength and to characterize the absorptivity constants of E7 constituents. The developed technique is applied in the case of equilibrium solubility studies for E7 in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). The results indicate unambiguously that scCO2 can fractionate the mixture towards the E7 components. The four single components peaks of the E7 mixture were distinctively separated by this method which enabled the determination of the solubility of E7 constituents in the scCO2.

متن کاملSeparation of Somatropin and Its Degradation Products by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Using a Reversed-Phase Polymeric Column
The accurate prediction of protein stability is one of the most challenging goals in protein formulation and delivery. In this study, a gradient RP-HPLC method is described for the separation of human growth hormone (hGH) variants as deamidated and oxidized forms. The methodology employed a polymeric poly (styrene-co-divinylbenzene) column and a 1mL/min flow rate of a linear gradient of 0.1% v/...

متن کاملInvestigation into the temperature dependence of isotropic- nematic phase transition of Gay- Berne liquid crystals
Density functional approach was used to study the isotropic- nematic (I-N) transition and calculate the values of freezing parameters of the Gay- Berne liquid crystal model. New direct and pair correlation functions of a molecular fluid with Gay- Berne pair potential were used. These new functions were used in density functional theory as input to calculate the isotropic- nematic transition den...
